Calling all local writers! Are you in need of a little inspiration?
Our Writers Group is going to be hosted at the CATFE LOUNGE, and is scheduled for THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4TH
Bring along your journals, notebooks, or laptops (we'll have a sufficient power supply for your chargers), and set up in their cafe space to start networking with fellow scribes.
Exercises: Library staff will facilitate a series of writing exercises to get your creative juices flowing! We'll provide you with prompts for poems, micro-essays, or even something that could serve as the first page of your next short story, memoir, or novel!
If we have any volunteers, then we'll hopefully have at least one live reading toward the end of the program.
Questions? Email us at: amber@fadl.org
This event will be hosted AT THE CATFE LOUNGE: 686 Livernois
Note: We won't be joined by any cats, but you'll likely be able to meet casual cat enthusiasts!

Our monthly Sunday Songwriters Series, 2025, comes to a finale on Sunday, December 14, at 2:00 pm, with a free, all-ages performance by the versatile Detroit-based singer/songwriter, Marbrisa!
Marbrisa started her musical journey in Latin America at age 23. This ambitious, self-taught musician got her chops by accompanying locals in Guatemala on their busking trips, from buses to street markets, and local cafeterias. She studied Flamenco guitar in Spain and now blends Latin, jazz, R&B, and folk. While in New Orleans, she founded an ongoing composer event, Queens of the Song Age, currently hosted at the Detroit House of Music.
These free, all-ages concerts are hosted on the 2nd Sunday of each month, starting at 2:00 pm; sponsored by the Friends of the Ferndale Library!
No registration required!

The Ferndale Library and Affirmations co-host a social club/book club for kids in grades 4-8, meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the library's program room.
This is a social hour that includes a book discussion. Each month, attendees have the chance to read and then discuss a selected book at the Reading Rainbow.
Kids don't have to have finished (or even started) the book to attend the Reading Rainbow; the rest of the hour is free time dedicated to socializing/crafting/hanging out together.
Drop-ins are always welcome!
You can pick up a copy of this month's book at the Ferndale Library or place a hold online.
On December 16, we'll be discussing Tales from Beyond The Rainbow by Pete Jordi Wood: Ten captivating stories of adventure and resilience celebrating LGBTQ+ characters, published as an illustrated collection of queer classics for the first time.
