Biography

The Ferndale Area District Library seeks applications from interested members of the community to fill a recent vacancy on its Board of Directors. The successful applicant will be appointed by the current Board and serve for a term ending Dec. 31, 2026. If a full term of service is desired after serving the partial term, the successful candidate would have to seek election from the public in November 2026 to continue serving on the Board for a four-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2027.

Those who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:

-         Minimum age of 18

-         City of Ferndale resident

-         No recent felony convictions

-         Not an employee of the Ferndale Area District Library

-         No immediate-family relationships to employees of the Ferndale Area District Library

Interested and eligible candidates should submit their “application” (consisting of a letter of interest, resume, and two references) to erinhooperferndalelibrary@gmail.com by Jan. 2, 2026. A tentative schedule for appointment is as follows:

-         Jan. 2: Applications due to erinhooperferndalelibrary@gmail.com 

-         Jan. 9: Shortlisted applicants notified

-         Jan. 15: Public interviews

-         Jan. 22: Appointment made by Board of Directors 

Meghan Evoy

Biography

Meghan Evoy is the Principal of an elementary and preschool in the Centerline School District  She earned a BA and Teacher's Certificate in Theology and Teacher Education from the University of Notre Dame, an MS in School Leadership from the University of Dayton, and a Master's in Music Education from the University of Michigan. 

Meghan's lived in Ferndale for 19 years, and she and her family are dedicated library users.  She loves that libraries take society's best ideas and stories and make them available to everyone. 

Meghan's term of office expires December 31, 2026.

Kelly Farrah

Kelly Farrah has been a resident of Ferndale since 1997. She served on the board of the Friends of the Ferndale Library from 2010 to 2016, first as Treasurer, then several terms as President. Kelly is employed by McKnight, Canzano, Smith, Radtke & Brault, P.C., and has been an active volunteer in many Ferndale community organizations. A self-described library geek, Kelly couldn’t imagine living anywhere else but Ferndale.

Kelly serves as Board Secretary. Kelly’s term of office expires December 31, 2028.

Brianna Foraker

Biography

Brianna Foraker is a union organizer with the non-tenure track faculty union at the University of Michigan, working with the librarians, archivists, and curators of LEO-GLAM. She has a background as an educator and holds a degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, focusing on anti-bias education and multicultural literature. Brianna has more than ten years of experience as a community organizer working with social justice organizations. She is committed to the idea that everyone, regardless of their income and background, deserves to thrive, and she believes that libraries, as vital public resources, must be protected. She is an active member of the Friends of the Ferndale Library and a frequent user of library resources and programs. Brianna is currently appointed as the chair of the Arts and Exhibitions committee.

Brianna's term of office expires on December 31, 2028.

Erin Hooper

Erin Hooper is the Global Marketing Manager for the Education and Science + Technology sectors at
Stantec – an international architecture, engineering and design firm. Prior to her career in marketing, she
worked for many years as a reporter and staff writer for local newspaper group. Erin is an ardent reader,
a lover of both fiction and science, and a fierce advocate for information access and Freedom of the
Press. She previously served on the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Board of Directors as
Programs Lead for the Detroit chapter and served as co-chair of CREW Detroit’s Communications
Committee for several years before that. Erin was an active member in the international CREW
organization from 2012 until election to the Ferndale Area District Library Board of Directors in 2022. With
two children in Ferndale Public Schools, it’s important to her that our region’s youth grow up with empathy
and understanding, in a community rich with culture, and where resources are both equitable and
accessible. Erin holds a B.A. in English and Journalism from Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.

Erin servies as Board President. Her term of office expires December 31, 2026.

Jonathan Ross

Biography

Jonathan Ross is a service industry worker who lives and works in Ferndale, and he’s a proud Ferndale Library patron. He earned his BA in English from Oakland University, with a Minor in Film Aesthetics & History. While living on the west coast, he became involved in environmental activism, using his interest in communications to advocate for the ecosystems of south-central Alaska. Now settled back in his home state, Jonathan spends his time writing, community organizing, and obeying his cat. He firmly believes in the library as the communal heart of a healthy community, and as a safe and inclusive gathering space for all.

Jonathan serves on the Finance Committee. His term of office expires on December 31, 2028.

Kevin Yezbick

Biography

Kevin Yezbick has been a Ferndale resident since 2009. He earned his Masters in Library and Information Science in 2006 at Wayne State University and brings over ten years of experience in Public Libraries to his service with the Library Board. He has previously held terms as both President and Vice-President of the Friends of the Ferndale Library. Currently employed as a Digital Asset Manager in the private sector, Kevin’s belief in Public Libraries as anchor institutions that enrich the culture and lives of their communities led him to accept an invitation to be appointed as an interim board member in 2015. Currently he serves on the Finance Committee.

Kevin serves as Board Treasurer.  Kevin’s term of office expires December 31, 2026.
