The Ferndale Library and Affirmations co-host a social club/book club for kids in grades 4-8, meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the library's program room.
This is a social hour that includes a book discussion. Each month, attendees have the chance to read and then discuss a selected book at the Reading Rainbow.
Kids don't have to have finished (or even started) the book to attend the Reading Rainbow; the rest of the hour is free time dedicated to socializing/crafting/hanging out together.
Drop-ins are always welcome!
You can pick up a copy of this month's book at the Ferndale Library or place a hold online.
On January 27, we'll be discussing Operatic by Kyo Maclear: This evocatively illustrated graphic novel brilliantly captures the high drama of middle school by focusing on the desire of its finely drawn characters to sing and be heard.
FADL is committed to accessibility—please reach out at least 1 week in advance for accommodation requests at youth@fadl.org or 248-546-2504

Join us for an in-person book club event discussing Grief is for People by Sloane Crosley on TUESDAY, JANUARY 27 at 6:30 PM.
We'll have a few copies reserved at the Ferndale Library circulation desk in early January or you can place a hold online! It's also available as an ebook and audiobook on Libby, and on Hoopla!
About the book: Sloane Crosley looks for answers in philosophy and art, hoping for a framework more useful than the unavoidable stages of grief, exploring what constitutes family and possession. Grief Is for People rises precisely to console and challenge our notions of mourning.
