Mara Magyarosi-Laytner: The Untended Garden

Artist Opening Reception on Thursday, February 8 - 6:00 pm

Artist Talk / Book Launch + Live Music & Refreshments

Mara Magyarosi-Laytner is a Detroit-based artist, educator, and curator; her artistic work pairs experimental lens-based methods to explore identity through a symbolic and poetic perspective. Magyarosi-Laytner is an award-winning educator who combines her love of photography and passion for connection. Magyarosi-Layter is also the founder of the Silver Water Collective, an all-women artist collective celebrating the work of fine art photographers. Her works have been shown across the U.S. and internationally.

The Untended Garden is Magyarosi-Laytner’s visual reflection of the coming of age of women as viewed through the cyclical nature of life in a garden. This winter, the artist will release a book of her photography that also features essays by Dr. Anita Bates and Sarah Ayers, exploring the expectations of women as informed by society and culture, the transformation that women reach as they break through during their coming of age, and the resolution of self that comes from the acceptance of flaws and the reality of aging. Works on display at the library are also featured in her new book.

Join us at a special Opening Artist Reception on February 8, which doubles as an Author Talk/Book Signing!
